History

Billie and Jami Marlowe
Billie Marlowe succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2006, and is best remembered for her charity expressed through food. As owner of Billie’s Purple Fork in Brownsville, PA, she offered free Thanksgiving meals prepared and served by her children and grandchildren. After retiring, she used food to bring together the elderly residents at the senior apartments where she lived.

“Luvfest reminds me of Thanksgiving dinners at the Purple Fork, but now with beer,” said Wallace Marlowe.

Organized by Bloomfield resident, Jami Marlowe, all LUVFEST funds are donated in memory of her mother, Billie Marlowe. Siblings Elizabeth Tennant and Wallace Marlowe assist with food/beverage preparation on the day of the event.

The party celebrates Billie Marlowe’s love of food and its ability to bring families together. “While volunteering at the Pittsburgh Food Bank, I have seen first-hand impact the Food Bank has on families in our area. Pittsburghers’ common memories seem to revolve around food so there is no better way to honor my mom than by having a party to raise funds and awareness,” said organizer Jami Marlowe. “The people of Pittsburgh, my family and friends, are the greatest reason I love this city.  Their selflessness in volunteering time and talent is always humbling.”

Since 2007, Luvfest has raised over $7,000 for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
